A note from Nana…

Today my daughter and son-in-law  welcomed their second child into the world and I will soon meet my next grandchild. My first granddaughter, now 12 kept vigil with me – her Nana. Precious times.

Lois Wyse has been credited as stating that “..grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generation.” Since becoming a grandmother myself, I can only say that truer words have never been spoken. Her book, “Funny, You Don’t Look Like a Grandmother”, remains one of my favorites.

So today’s musing is going to be brief and quite personal but I can’t think of anything more symbolic of possibilities than a new life.  In honor of my grandchildren, I offer these words from Ms. Wyse’s book on inheritance:

China cupboards filled with cups of memories,

A piano’s tune that sang its tune before me,

Secret drawers that hold my parents past,

All these are here for me to see

And so piece together what has gone before

To understand the people who once walked these halls.

For in the home my grandmother created,

I find the beginnings of the love I have inherited.

Hurry home, Miss Keira! My halls (and love) await!

  1. I love those words. They warm my heart, but also made me miss my own grandparents incredibly… because they touched my life so deeply. I know my mom and dad will be as good of grandparents to the kids that come into our family, as mine were to my brother and I, and I think those words put that knowledge down on paper perfectly. Thanks for that 🙂

Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

    • Thanks for stopping by! You honor your grandparents with your words and I’m sure with your life. My company name is Mackenzie Circle – Molly Mackenzie was my great-grandmother.. So many great grandparent stories are out there! And one day – you’ll be one!

  2. I’ve heard it said that you don’t know what true love is until you have a grandchild. I find it hard to believe, knowing how strong the love I feel my own children. I am still waiting for a grandchild to see if it’s true. Congratulations to you and your family!

    • Thanks for stopping by, Lianda. I had heard the same and like you, wondered how it could be true. There is a definite new dimension to the emotion – just knowing it is your child’s child. The legacy of love is amazing. Thank you for your kind words!

  3. Congratulations on the new arrival. I’m sure you will spend many special times with both grand-daughters.
